has anyone made alternative heads or headgear for the 40mm lines. I'm thinking of a broad floppy hat or informal tricorne of the early 18th century, or a pokelom or karpus that might be used in the Great Northern War by Swedes or Russians.

Hi,
The best mold, 40 mm, to use for a swedish soldier from 18 cent. with the "Karpus" is mold nr 906 and 911 (Grenadjär). The problem is that, as I know, no one knows how the karpus looked like! There is some karpus in early paintings from th 17- and 18 cent with fur on.

There are several drawings of Karbuds caps worn on the Northern Wars website. www.northernwars.com/Norunif.htmlThe Prince August figures should be easy to convert to represent Swedish or Norwegian infantry wearing the Karbuds. I've converted some Prussian Grenadiers to Fusiliers be cutting their mitre caps down, and I've turned standing and kneeling infantry figures into Grenadiers de Fischer, by mounting Austrian style grenadier caps on them. The dragoon with raised carbine may be converted to a von Kleist cavalry trooper, using an Austrian fur grenadier cap with the bag cut off and the base carved into the shape of a fusilier cap. I've cut the same dragoon apart at the waist, and mounted a firing infantryman onto him, to arrive at a skirmishing dragoon figure. The conversion is really quite simple, using an X-Acto razor saw. I use officer's heads from Nürnberger Meisterzinn moulds to convert Prince August mounted officers into Generals. Nürnberger Meisterzinn has a whole range of separate heads which may be suitable for conversion projects.
