I am still having trouble with casting small parts. Bagpipes in particular. If I have the metal too hot it burns the mold. If its too low it sets too fast. I'm using Talc on the moulds and heating them up. Any other suggestions?

If your hot metal is about 650-F you should be able to cast the small parts. I've drilled small holes in one side of the small-part moulds, and eliminated the talc. This protocal is yielding fairly good results with the smaller parts. Hope this helps!

I cut a small v in the bottom of the mould, just to let the air out,you have to be very carefull that the metal is not too hot or you could burn the mould out, keep using the talc(just a little)as it does help to stop the mould burning I will try drilling small holes as Fwgoudy said and see how it goes

I have to agree, cutting a small air channel or a minute hole will usually do the trick. Do keep using the talcum, though!

make sure you use really good quality metal for small parts - let the air out as the guys have said - also keep the mould really still while it sets - good luck
