None of my local game stores sell mini's that aren't attached to some rules system. Since the death of Ral Partha there aren't any general gaming mini's in widespread distribution. I saw a pack of 5 plastic minis going for $20 yesterday and it got me thinking about PA.
If the US market is going solely to the GW mini's + rules model maybe prince august should follow suit. Take the new 32mm line and marry it with a rules set that allows for truely epic battles. Something where one point equal one mini on the table and a small skirmish has 100 figures on each siden and big battle take up the whole floor.
The logistic wouldn't be that hard. Set up an LLC in Delaware and find a fulfillment company to do all of your US warehousing and shipping. Ship everything in via UPS or some other service that knows how to clear customs and you're good to go.
The hard part would be breaking into the American distribution system. Off the top of my head here are a couple changes that would have to be made.
Most American companies have a CGL (commerical general liability) policy with an absolute pollution exlusion. The last thing they're going to want to do is sell lead, a known pollutant. An American distrubtion is going to have to be all 5 star metal. Call the starter set a pewter miniatures kit or something like that to make sure there's no confusion.
Also you'd need to include gloves and eye protection in the starter set. An for ages 12+ on the box might also not be a bad idea.
I don't know. I'm sure PA has looked into breaking into the American market in the past. There's probably a good reason they still mail order only. Still I can dream about being able to pick up mould locally...
