The vikings are excellent figures, I was glad to see new 40mm figures and full round, but I was amazed that your latest fantasy range was not the same size as the vikings. It seemed natural to me to use the vikings as 'men' to complement the elves etc. Oh well, at least they are a good match for Irregular miniatures ranges. 40mm is my scale of choice so I look forward to more ranges (Turks would be nice...... for me anyway!) - Ross www.lochsloy.ca

That's a good point. Irregular troops do not really lend themselves well to home casting, because you cannot use the same figure over and over again. Uniformed troops look right, if all the figures in the formation are more or less identical, and marching in step.

I do love the 40mm range and the vikings are exceptionally great but they're left in a universe of their own. The only other fully round 40mm figures are Indians and cowboys, a few cannons and a couple of sports figures. So why were the vikings released as 40mm and not any other range?

I do love the 40mm range and the vikings are exceptionally great but they're left in a universe of their own. The only other fully round 40mm figures are Indians and cowboys, a few cannons and a couple of sports figures. So why were the vikings released as 40mm and not any other range? Well the scale was considered a good compromise at the time, both for gaming and diorama building as well as being economical to cast in metal, which had risen at that time in cost. As to why it was fully round? Well since it was a new range that was historically unique in terms of our other ranges, there was no reason to do semi-flats of them. The SYW recent releases build upon past releases, and are aimed for a type of wargame market that likes semi-flats. Vikings were a new range to Prince August and people like fully rounded figures. Prince August frequently experiments with new ideas. We may expand on them in the future, as we are moving towards 3D printing and this will save time and money, which allows for more releases and expansions of ranges that were not feasible in the old hand sculpted method due to expense.

Thanks, 3d printing/sculpting is super intersting although as someone interested in art I like seeing hand crafted things. Looking forward to seeing new releases in all ranges.

There's a lot of themes I'd like to see added to your range of molds. In my opinion the 40mm range are superiour to the 54mm and 25mm ranges. I would love to see: Robin Hood, Battle of Hastings 1066 but most of all I'd wish you'd expand the Vikings range.

yes 40mm are good but not superior to 54mm but all said and done PA will not make any more 54mm moulds, so its 40mm or buy some where new 54mm are made
