my hotplate from PA come had to have a go, but not to HOT takes a long time to melt the lead,?..is this right ? i had the seting on 5 i was useing the cooker and this melted it in a few min........is it me or the hotplate You are a bit unclear exactly what the issue is. First what metal are you using? Pure lead takes a LOT of heat to melt. We do not sell pure lead. Secondly we use the hotplates in our shop constantly and they are very good, and usually we set them at 3 or 4 to cast with. they are not specialist megahot hotplates, they are just handy single hob cookers and therefore do require that the setting be at least 3 to work with metal. People use them to cook dinner too. Starting from cold will take longer to melt metal than remelting the metal during the casting process, this is completely normal. since you did not give me much information on how long it took you to melt the metal I cannot judge if their was anything unusual about your hotplate. Model metal melts at about 200 celsius and takes about 10 minutes to start casting from cold at setting 3 to 4 (personal perference). You should not have to set it higher than 4. Setting it too high will only overheat the metal and damage the mould.

How powerful does a hotplate have to be to reach the 325 celsius necessary to melt 5 star metal ? Is 2000W enough ? How powerful is the hotplate sold by prince august ? Our current hotplates are 1500W. We do reorder and sometimes change suppliers so this answer is valid as of July 2011.
