Happy New Year to Everybody. Has anybody any tips on photographing 25mm figures with digital camera without any zoom lens. I've taken a few but they could be clearer. Thanks.

It really depends on the optics more than anything else. To focus on small objects up close you need a lense with a macro setting. If you try with a regular lense the optics just aren't going to be able to focus. I hate to say this but your best bet is to go look for one of those higher end digital cameras that look a bit like a camcorder and see if it says anything about a Macro setting on the box.

Thanks Steve. Not what I wanted to hear but appreciate the point on macro settings and your right the standard lens' just can't focus properly. I have about three hundred 25 mm Napoleonics, nicely painted and I'll have to look into acquiring some way of photographing them.

You do not need an expensive camera, most good digital cameras around the 200 Euro mark have a macro setting. If you are photographing a lot of 25mm figures then do NOT use a macro unless you want to focus on one or two figures and have the rest blurry. Always use a tripod to steady the camera. Also some cameras have a connection that allows you to use a 'clicker' on a cord to take the photo, this further reduces the 'shake' as you are not touching the camera at all. For images for a website I use a 4 MP camera. You only need a more powerful camera if you plan to print on A4 or bigger paper your images. I also advise using natural light and reflective paper rather than indoor lights as they cast a 'yellow' tint on everything. Diffuse natural light, especially strong light with a white gause. Or use normal cloud cover. This avoids strong shadows.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have another go with the camera I have for a group shot. It's a 4MP one and pictures taken so far are okay but the detail is hard to make out. Keeping the camera steadier sounds like a good idea. I'll have to wait a month or two for normal cloud cover though!!

I'am OK with the Administrator's post : I use a 4MP KODAK Bridge camera on a tripod, with macro position and without flash, prefer natural or additional lighth. Good luck for your photos, quickly the result of your three hundred soldier's

Thanks for the photo tips. How do you up-load pictures. Upload? Do you mean FTP it (file transfer Protocol). I use Dreamweaver, a professional webdesign program, but there are freeware programs that FTP OK. YOu must have a hosting provider. I think Cute FTP works, and Netcape had a free program as well. Do a search for FTP programs on google. Many PC mags have free programs on their cover CDs (not the game mags, the tech ones) To show a picture you must first know the http:// address of it. Either host it yourself or find the address of it in the code of another website (beware that some websites object to this as you steal bandwidth from them). Then just add image tags to each side, which can be done using the 4th icon on the lower row from the left with a tiny landscape image (beside the letter / email link.) Just highlight the link and then press the button. Make sure you have the [/img] at the end of the link, the / tells the program that the tag is complete.

ive found that what matters in taking a picture is 3 factors , camera setting , back ground and light , if you have them 3 then your on the way to having a great picture!
