I am very green to casting, just ordered the nativity starter kit, and I am eagerly awaiting its arrival. I also ordered extra metal as I am making Nativity Christmas gifts.
My question is, has anyone had any success casting with any type of Solder? I plan on ordering from PA when i can, but if there is a more economical solution for the metal, id rather pay for the molds.
I appreciate the patience and reply's to a newbie, and look forward to your responses.

If you know someone that deals with old, worn out auto batteries, they are called Lead-Acid batteries. Be carefull and break them open for the Lead plates. If you know someone that shoots guns and has access to the Lead used at gun ranges, you might be able to get that Lead. If you know somone that works with underground cables, some are Lead Sheathed and old ones are nomally just discarded. Many bottles of wine are closed at the top with a Lead covering. If you know a bartender, have them save those for you. And yes if you know anyone that deals a lot with solder, have them give you any that is not used. I mix anything and everything that melts to make my soldiers and other things.
