The new knights are released. At least 3 types. The Knight on foot, an archer and a billman. Enjoy

Well I answered my own question about switching arms and heads around on the new Medieval figures. I tried it and it works a treat! I cut off the quiver on the crossbowman, drilled holes in the arm sockets and shoulders of the arms to take brass pins which held the arms in position as I maneuvered them around so that the arms off the billman could be positioned for the crossbowman to hold the bill. It takes a bit of milliput and filing to make them fit but once that is done they look great! I also cut behind his neck and under his chin, leaving the bit in the middle uncut, and tipped his head up (puttying over the gap) so he can see where he is going. Now I can have a unit of unarmored billmen for local militia and the like.
The billman also got a change in his job description since he is in absolutely the perfect position to take the arms off the crossbowman, turning him into a heavily armored crossbowman suitable for sieges and the like. I swapped heads around liberally and now I have units that look more Medieval and not quite so uniform. The billman’s head goes onto the crossbowman without any problems, just a little filing to get rid of the chain mail and make into a cloth hood. The crossbowman’s head on the billman was a bit more difficult since I wanted to keep the chain mail coif. I had to cover the whole area with a thin coat of milliput and work the chain mail detail in with the point of a pin.
Unfortunately the arms off the Napoleonic and Prussian Seven Years War figures don’t quite match the Medieval figures, too small and too thin. That is a shame since I would like to put a drum on one of the figures (I am using the one off the Traditional Soldier Hussar Kettledrummer) and it would have been nice to not have to convert them from the Medieval arms I have available. However the hunting horn off the 95th Rifles looks as though it might work for the musician of an archer unit (I am building a Warhammer army).
Next week horns and flags. I will keep you posted on my progress. Is anyone else out there messing about with converting their Medieval figures?

Hi Lensman, Haven't purchased any knights yet, but after being in the shop in Cork and seeing them, they are definately on the shopping list. Any possibility of viewing some of your work on conversions, that will inspire us? (By the way PA, can you get rid of the postings in this thread that seem to be spam)

Hi Lensman and Casso, Yes, I convert allways the PA figurs. Please see on the collectors page the coverting of the viking and cavelery. Please send in pictures of your work. To day I'm coverting the the 800 serie to a mounted horse-band. The three first figurs are readdy to be painted so soon you will see them on the collectors page.

Hi Didrik,
I am currently working on a five man unit of unarmored billmen made from the crossbowman and hope to have it done in one week at which time I will photograph it and send pictures to the collector’s page. I am doing a standard bearer and musician (I haven’t decided whether he is going to play a drum or a horn) and three soldiers. When the P.A. Sergeant mould I ordered arrives I am going to do him as the unit commander. Eventually this will be a 15 man unit for Warhammer Medieval Battles, part of a one thousand point Hundred Years War army.
Oh by the way I checked out your pictures on the collectors page. Nice work! So, what are you doing with the Medievals?
Last thought. Has anyone tried putting one side from the French Knight’s horse together with the opposite side from the English Knight? They look as though they should match up fairly well in which case we will be able to produce a total of 4 different horses. I am not worried about harness and saddles matching, those parts can be puttied so long as the bodies fit reasonably well.

My plan is to make alternative shields for the knights - I think this might be a low-effort way of creating some variation.
I'm toying with the idea of trying photo-etching to produce engraved/embossed emblems.
However, the truth is that I don't have time to cast and paint unmodified figures, let alone perform chemistry experiments. P A is making moulds faster than I can use them.
Cheers Tom

Hi John, Thanks for comments. I'm looking forward for you picture. I'm still waiting that PA should give out a crusader in full action!
So I have not bought any knight moulds jet.
About the horse's I think you can swap them. I have swap the mould 804 and 805 so I got four different horses. Then you can always change the tail.
To Tom. about photo-etching. I use mycomputer and colorprinter at home to make emblems in color and in right size. So it work.

Tom, I may have some good news for you. A Spanish company called Nimix makes etched brass sheets of Medieval symbols designed for 54mm figures! They can be found at www.histomin.com/linenmx/nmxacc/nmxaccbrassmed/pgnmxaccbrassmed.htmThey also make etched brass sheets of 54mm scale plant material as well as “cavalry compliments” including horseshoes, reins, bits, spurs and sword blades, (both straight and curved). In addition they make uniform insignia for WWII, U.S. Civil War, and Spanish Napoleonic war figures. If you would prefer there are also several companies that make Medieval symbols in 54mm scale in decal form. Hope this information helps. John

Hi Guys, I've tried to photograph conversions and similar before, as most of the models I work with are in 25mm scale, I need far better equipment to do this (or a steadier hand!!). Some picture that I had sucess with I posted on the Prince August Yahoo site.

That etched stuff looks very nice indeed. I'd buy two of everything, just to look at it, but it isn't cheap. Not at all cheap.
I have some doubts about mixing the horse halves. The two horses are quite close to being mirror images of each other, so the end results might be a bit too symmetrical. They might not look so believable from a gait point-of-view.
On the other had, it might work very nicely. There's only one way to find out.

Tom,
Well there is always decals. There are several companies out there that make really nice decals whose various bits can be assembled to make all sorts of heraldry. If you are interested I can provide links.
Looking at the horses I was thinking that the halves with the front legs bent could, if they fit together, make a horse that is rearing up on its hind legs. One would have to change the necks of course but that is dead easy and it would provide a dramatic pose for a hero or perhaps a commander figure.
I have been thinking that when I do eventually get around to buying the mounted figures that I may cover their bodies with milliput and make barding for them in which case it would be easy to cut off the legs and have them emerging from the barding any way I like, thereby giving me a whole bunch of variety.

I just purchased some 54mm Knights-moulds and would be very interested in decals. Can anyone help me for info? Would also be interested in pictures/suggestions on conversions.
